Smurf Trap

Game Description:
An organized tag game which requires the use of large gym mats for the children to hide behind.
Objective:
To be the last Smurf remaining.
Game Rules:
Place many mats, standing on edge, throughout the gymnasium. Choose one child to be Gargamel. The rest of the children will line up on one of the end walls, facing the wall. Gargamel will then hide behind one of the various mats. When the teachers yells out “SMURFS,” the children try to reach the other end of the gymnasium without getting tagged by Gargamel (who will pop out from behind the mats). - If children get tagged by Gargamel, they become gnomes, as well. - Rounds will continue until there are no smurfs remaining. At this point, the game is over.
Saftey Considerations:
Remind children to watch where they are running (as other children can pop into their path unexpectedly).
Adaptations (optional):
If you would like to play multiple rounds of this game, the last smurf remaining in each round becomes Gargamel in the following round.
Progression (optional):
Have children get across the playing area by moving in different ways (Ex. Everyone has to hop or gallop across the gym).
