It is important to practice this skill on each foot. 

Take off

  • Head up
  • Eyes look in direction of the hop or forward
  • Stand on one foot and bend knee
  • Knee of other leg bent and foot off ground
  • Straighten the leg you are standing on to push off
  • Push off from the ball/midsection of the foot


  • Keep knee of raised leg bent
  • Arms are bent and swing forward and up
  • Leg and arms swing in rhythm with the hop


  • On one foot
  • Support knee bends for a soft, absorbed landing
  • Movement starts again from that bend
